About Us

Our Vision

A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live

Our Mission

To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting homeownership as a means of breaking the cycle of poverty.

Habitat For Humanity Regina

about usHabitat for Humanity Regina has been providing families with a hand up to break the cycle of poverty through homeownership since 1993. Through volunteer labour and donations of money and materials, Habitat Regina builds safe, decent and affordable homes alongside community partners.

Once completed, Habitat homes are sold to partner families with no down-payment and an interest-free mortgage. Monthly mortgage payments go into the Fund for Humanity, which is used to continually build more homes for Regina families.

Habitat Regina was established in 1993 and is responsible for Chapters in Moose Jaw, Weyburn and Yorkton. It is one of 58 Canadian affiliates and a member of Habitat for Humanity Canada, part of a worldwide network that spans 93 countries and has served more than 2 million people.

In Southern Saskatchewan, Habitat Regina has built more than 70 homes, with the goal of building 100 more homes in the next five years.

Helping Families and Communities

Habitat for Humanity Regina partner families spend a maximum of 25% of their income on mortgage payments, as opposed to the 50-75% many were paying prior to homeownership. As a family's financial situation improves their dependence on social services decreases, creating a better contribution to the community and local economy.

Adequate and affordable housing leads to improvements in health, education and emotional well-being. In 2012, Habitat for Humanity Canada took part in a study sponsored by the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) that interviewed 326 partner families from various regions in Canada. The findings demonstrated the benefits of the Habitat for Humanity program:

  • 89% indicated that their family life has improved
  • 78% of families surveyed rated their health and the health of their families has improved
  • 58% reported they were better off financially
  • 21.5% upgraded their job skills or started to learn a new trade
  • 17.1% have returned to school
